John Finch, the founder of John Finch Engineering, grew up with a spanner in his hand. Since the age of four he can recall helping out his father in his workshop. As he became more adept, he helped repair & service garden machinery at his father’s business in his school holidays & evenings. This gave him a very good basic knowledge of mechanics.

John’s father has always had motorcycles. He was built a Fantic 50 with a sidecar when he was just  4 years old. John would tear around the fields with his father hanging on for dear life. On more than one occasion they both parting company with the bike. I guess you could say that Johns love for speed & motorcycles started at an early age.

When John was 16 yrs old, he could finally get on the road. His first bike was a Kawasaki AR50 of which he spent most of his time, making it go faster. This little bike taught John a huge amount about 2 stroke tuning. He created an interest that would never go away.

Also at the age of 16 when John left school he started working for an engineering company, as a trainee machinist. This served him well & he learnt a huge amount. John learnt various skills from making parts for tractors to F1 cars & everything in between. John stayed with the company for just over 20 years & when he left, self employment beckoned and John Finch Engineering was born.

John Finch Engineering started out in a small industrial unit in Dunkeswell, Devon. Throughout the first year many new customers came through the doors. They built up a good client base coupled with a good reputation for quality workmanship.

Soon after their first years trading they grew out of their premises. In 2010 John took on an apprentice called ‘Ash’ and moved to new, larger premises. John sold his beloved GT40 to fund new CNC machines.

In 2013 they took on another apprentice, Will as well as expanding the engineering capabilities with more CNC machines.

To date, John Finch Engineering has grown into a successful business.

Johns love for motorbikes or anything with an engine will always enthuse customers to keep coming back with more.
